In partnership with Ōtākaro FC & Coastal Spirit FC, SASFC has implemented a Girls and Women’s Pathway that takes a common sense, player-centred approach to developing the football potential of our young players

In SASFC Girls Junior Football our main goal is having fun!

Mainland Football run 'girls only' competitions at joint 9th & 10th Grade and 11th & 12th Grade age groups. We take a flexible approach to make sure everyone is allocated a team and competition that is right for them.

Our preparations for the 2025 Winter Season begin during March:

  • Summer Kickabout Sessions are free, fun, 'have a go' sessions for players keen to play football for SASFC in the Winter Season. Everyone welcome: see dates below for your age group
  • Open Training/Grading Sessions are a chance for our coaches to check out players and to help us make sure we get players into the right teams. Free sessions, with registration required
  • Note: players looking to play in a 'Blue' team should attend both Open Training sessions
  • Registration for Open Training allows us to track players and offer team places, but does not commit you to join the club
  • All pre-season sessions take place on St Albans Park, unless stated otherwise

Summer Kickabout Sessions No cost – no registration required – check dates for your age group:

9th & 10th Grade Girls (2015 & 2016) TBC

11th & 12th Grade Girls (2013 & 2014) TBC

Open Training Sessions No cost – no registration required

9th & 10th Grade Girls (2015 & 2016) TBC

11th & 12th Grade Girls (2013 & 2014) TBC

Note: players born 2017 to 2020 take part in our First Kicks and Fun Football programme in 2025.

Female players born 2012 and older can play Girls Youth Football (see below)

Girls born 2013 to 2016 can play in SASFC Junior teams with and against other girls. Those happy to play with and against boys can play in mixed teams

We enter 'mixed' teams – boys and girls – into Winter Season Junior Football from 9th Grade onwards, but 'girls only' football is always an option for SASFC players. As well as Saturday morning games against other Christchurch clubs, players train together at St Albans Park along with an additional practice session or training game which may be arranged by volunteer game leaders.

Girls born 2009 to 2012 can try out for a Ōtākaro FC team...

The expansion of Ōtākaro FC in 2024 to include Girls Football provides an entirely new option for our female SASFC Youth players to try out for a 14th or 16th Grade Girls team playing at the highest regional level. As a founder member club, SASFC has embraced this wider collaboration as the best possible option for aspirational Girls Youth players on the east side of Christchurch. Trials take place mid-February and players should complete an Expression of Interest form with Ōtākaro FC as soon as possible by clicking here

...or play Girls Youth football with SASFC

SASFC will enter teams in the Girls 14th Grade Mainland Winter Season Girls Youth Competition, for all other players who wish to continue playing under the SASFC badge.

The Girls 16th Grade, Senior Womens Canterbury Championship League (CWCL) and the Womens Premier & South Island Leagues in 2025 will continue to have teams entered under the Coastal Spirit SASFC partnership.

SASFC Open Training/Grading Sessions take place March 2025

Open Training/Grading Sessions are a chance for SASFC coaches to check out the players and to help us make sure that we get everyone into the right teams:
