SASFC Community
SASFC is an inclusive, supportive, community-focussed grassroots football club
We recognise the challenges facing grassroots sport in New Zealand, as we aim to harness all available opportunities to advance it.
The generous support of our sponsor organisations goes a long way to getting boots on the grass every weekend, but there is always more we can do.
Fundraising drives make a big difference to the quality of our members' playing experience, by improving our equipment and facilities. Look out for communication from your team’s fundraising coordinator at the start of each season.
We also support young players who might be unable to play due to financial hardship. As anyone who has kids involved in team sports knows, it doesn't come cheap. Just getting playing kit organised each season can be a struggle, even before playing fees need to be paid.
We do this by pulling together as a community, harnessing small amounts of individual time and resources and bringing it together in a way that makes a big difference to each and every player.
This is essentially what our football club IS: the sum of all this energy and commitment, so much bigger than its parts, working for the benefit of everyone.
Our ReBoot programme is a great example of this. Players who have outgrown their boots, shirts and other playing kit such as tournament jackets can donate them to the rest of the membership, who are then able to make a small donation in exchange for ‘new’ donated gear. The money we collect this way goes into a hardship fund that we use to support families experiencing financial difficulty. See below for details.
The Scorching Goal Fund underpins this financial support by providing up to half of the cost of participation – including playing fees, playing kit and tournament fees – for each successful applicant. SASFC will then aim to top up each Scorching Goal award with our hardship fund resources. In most cases, all that is required is a form filled in and proof of low income, such as a Community Services card. We will then make the application on your behalf.
You can read more about the Scorching Goal fund at the Mainland Football website where you will also find a download link to the application form. Maybe you know a family with a footballer who is unable to play either First Kicks, Fun Football, Winter Season Football or tournament, due to financial hardship? We can help. In most cases, players who would otherwise miss out are able to take part.
Everyone needs to to help keep our football club working for all members. If you can spare an hour on a Saturday morning, you can help out in all sorts of ways, from coaching and management to organising kit & equipment and co-ordinate fundraising.
And remember to ReBoot your kit! Playing kit can be donated (and purchased) at our ReBoot table on a Saturday morning at St Albans Park, or by contacting us via email at kitdonations@sasfootball.club
