SASFC players born between 2008 & 2012 are allocated teams and play against other clubs in the Mainland Youth Football competition
SASFC and Ōtākaro FC work together across Youth Football
The launch of Ōtākaro FC in 2023 saw an entirely new option for SASFC Youth players to try out for a Canterbury Development League (CDL) team playing at the highest regional level. As a founder club, SASFC has embraced this collaboration as the best possible option for aspirational Youth players on the East side of Chirstchurch. Our Ōtākaro FC page has further details here
SASFC also field teams across the Youth space for players keen to play in the regular Youth leagues. Whether these are competitive or more social teams, we may look to combine with one of the six member Ōtākaro FC clubs if necessary to form teams based on:
- level of competition players wish to play at; Div 1 and Div 2 teams are often a joint enterprise
- location for players who want to play Div 3+ and train locally with their mates
- balance of player numbers, which ultimately dictate whether a team plays as SASFC or under one of the other Ōtākaro FC member club banners
Youth teams normally have at least one mid-week training session together throughout the Winter Season and are given the option to enter regional end-of-season tournaments.

All players need to register for Open Training via our main registration page. Open Training is free and there is no obligation to sign up for the season. Team selections are made in March and registration contact details are needed to offer players a place.
Please note players provide their own playing kit. Returning players should use the kit they retained from last season. New members, or returning players looking to replace their kit, will find all they need on the SAS Club Shop at Football Unlimited
